PETERSEN MEDIA- Spending his weekend in California taking part in the season opening events at Plaza Park Raceway and the Lemoore Jet Bowl, Austin Torgerson ran very well as he tallied a trio of Top-5’s including podium runs in Non-Winged action on both nights.

Friday night, Torgerson and company checked in at Plaza Park Raceway for what was the first event under the promotional group at the popular micro venue in Visalia, CA.

Competing in both Winged and Non-Winged action on this night, the Glendale, AZ runner timed in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Torgerson was scored fifth on the track, but driving past the scales following the race, he was DQ’d and forced to line up scratch on the field in the Winged feature event.

Taking the green flag from the 22nd starting position for what was a very fast paced 30-lap feature event, Torgerson did a nice job of working through traffic as he worked around the racy speedway.

Working his way up into the Top-15 at the halfway point of the race, Torgerson capped the winged portion of his night off with a 13th place finish.

In Friday night Non-Winged action, Torgerson went out late in the qualifying session and still laid down a great lap as he timed the Torgerson Racing mount in 8th fastest.

Starting and finishing second in his heat race, Torgerson found himself on the front row of the feature event. When the race came to life, Torgerson settled into second, but stayed within striking distance of the race lead. Pacing the leader, Torgerson was able to take command of the race on the 14th lap. Looking very strong out front, Torgerson continued to lead the way but traffic set up an entertaining battle for the win.

Battling hard, Torgerson slipped back to second on the 28th lap, where he went on to finish.

Making his way to Lemoore, CA on Saturday night for another two-division event, Torgerson continued to show great speed in California as Non-Winged action saw him sixth quickest, before earning quick time in the Winged car.

Heat race action saw Torgerson pick up the win from second in Non-Winged action as he finished fourth in his winged heat race.

Lining up sixth in the Non-Winged feature, Torgerson mounted a bit of a charge to the front as raced into the Top-5, and was into third on the 10th lap. Once in third, Torgerson held the position and picked up his second Non-Winged podium of the weekend.

In the winged feature, Torgerson lined up in the second row of the 30-lapper and slipped back to fifth in the race’s opening laps. Settling into a groove, Torgerson picked up the lost position on the eighth lap, and held on to cap his weekend off with a fourth place finish.

ON TAP: Austin Torgerson shifts gears this weekend as he heads to IL to take part in the Xtreme Outlaw Midget season opener with Mounce/Stout Motorsports Friday and Saturday.
