Ashton Torgerson Scores Golden Driller at Tulsa Shootout

PETERSEN MEDIA- Just before the clock struck midnight in Tulsa, OK, Ashton Torgerson closed out the 2023 calendar year in grand fashion as he took the checkered flag during the Winged ‘A’ Class Feature Event and scored his first career Golden Driller Trophy at the famed Tulsa Shootout.

The culmination of a busy season saw Torgerson take part in four divisions during the event in Tulsa, OK and he performed well as he made the feature event in three of the four, and finished 10th in Non-Winged Outlaw ‘B’.

Officially scored 23rd in the Stock Non-Winged Feature event, Torgerson was set to start on the front row of the Winged A-Class feature event after a strong week saw him go from sixth to first in his heat race and fourth to second in his qualifier.

Sharing the front row with Alec Quiggle for the 30-lap finale, Torgerson was hard on the throttle when the race came to life as he jumped out to the early lead and fended off challenges from the likes of Quiggle, Frank Flud, and Daison Pursley late in the feature event.

Very strong out front, Torgerson was able to hit his marks as he worked around the Tulsa Expo Center on a very slick surface and chased after the biggest win of his young career.

A late open red period put Pursley on his rear bumper for the final handful of laps, and despite Pursley taking a couple of shots at the Glendale, AZ driver, Torgerson never faltered as he led all 30-laps and claimed the Winged A Class feature event win.

Despite coming off the high of his first Golden Driller, Torgerson strapped in for the Winged Outlaw 55-lap feature event where he rolled off the starting grid in the 21st position after coming through the ‘B’ and the LCQ to earn a starting berth.

After an extensive track prep during his Trophy presentation, Torgerson hopped in and went to work from the tail end of the field.

Taking what he could get and keeping his nose clean, Torgerson moved forward nine positions and earned a 12th place finish in the finale race of the week.

ON TAP: Ashton Torgerson now turns his attention to the Chili Bowl where he will team up with Mounce/Stout Motorsports and his the track on  Thursday, January 11th.
